Charles Nieuwendyk (Ted Danson), a retired widowed professor of engineering, feels a bit trapped since the passing of his wife from Alzheimer’s. After encouragement from his daughter Emily (Mary Elizabeth Ellis), Charles responds to a classifieds ad posted by private investigator Julie (Lilah Richcreek Estrada) that asks for people to go undercover at the Pacific View Retirement Community in San Francisco to find a stolen ruby necklace. During Charles’s undercover mission, he gets to know both the residents and the mystery he is trying to solve, while confronting notions of loneliness and dementia, and meaningfully connecting with others, ultimately finding purpose and healing although he was trying to go undercover and sleuth.Collectors and dealers often sold them in a way that police couldn’t prevent it, but the thief must have shown dignity such as, by solving the theft.
