“Time Bandits” is a live-action fantasy adventure series that debuted on Apple TV+ on July 24, 2024. Written by Taika Waititi, Jemaine Clement, and Iain Morris, the series reimagines Terry Gilliam’s cult classic 1981 film. The ten-episode series meets Kevin, an 11-year-old history nerd, who becomes part of the team of time-traveling burglars spearheaded by Penelope (Lisa Kudrow) on a quest to save his parents and the world. Kevin discovers a portal in time through his bedroom and goes on various adventures across many different periods in history, ranging from the Ice Age to medieval England, Harlem Renaissance, to the Mayan Empire. There is humor, fantasy, as well as historic interest, although the show has remained faithful to the original movie while offering family-friendly surroundings.
